This, That and "The Other"

Can't believe it's been a whole week since I posted. Way too many distractions, which I now intend to bore you with. I'll make it painless with a few photo's.

Monday: A Tropical-delight day that demanded I at least drive the 25 miles to Palatka (nearest city with shopping) to vote early. Other than the gorgeous St. Johns river, Palatka doesn't have a whole lot going for it. Hard to think that it once hosted "Broadway" shows and was very much a part of the "Social Scene", but that was in the days of Paddle Wheeler's. After voting I treated myself to a Mocha MooLatte from the "walk up only" Dairy Queen. By the way, if you are lactose intolerent even 100% like me...you too can become addicted. Rather than sit in the car to enjoy my treat I drove the few blocks to the deserted river front so that I could sip and walk.
The huge amount of sky was intended!...Far more impressive than the new $gazillion$ town clock or my minivan.

Opposite the clock is the Veteran's Bridge...now THAT IS impressive. This picture was taken while standing in the Veteran's Memorial park amid it's fountains.

For those that didn't know. The St. Johns is one of very few rivers in the northern hemispere that flows from the south (just NE of Orlando) to the north (Jacksonville). Even though this part of the river is close to 100 miles upstream from the Atlantic Ocean you can find lots of shrimp in the summer and all kinds of salt water fish mingling with the fresh water varieties all year round.

Tuesday: Needing to work off the MooLatte indulgence I attacked the ever widening hedge that grows along two sides of my home. It was close to 4' deep and it's numerous legs well hidden. It is now barely 18" deep and spindly legged but still around 4' high. I won't embarrass it by showing you it's nakedness. I'll now at least, be able to keep it tamed without too much trouble leaving me more time and energy for the fun things in life.

Wednesday: I spent a glorious day outside at my spinning wheel. More black and brown/mix yarn was needed for the yarn-hungry "mola-poncho". Besides listening to the birds and watching our pair of year round resident Sand Hill Cranes, I listened to "Chopping Spree", the light-hearted murder audio book by Diane Mott Davidson.

Thursday: My need for physical activity returned after yesterday's bliss of spinning so I turned my attention to "the Boat"! What was once a proud, kind of sassy 17+' fiberglass deep V "Scout" was now a truly sad sight. The look of abandonment was enough to break my heart, with the mold and green algae making her appear to have been underwater for a decade. Her protective boat cover having dry rotted and now baring her once pearly white finish and padded seating made me feel like the worst boat abuser in the world. So armed with nasty smelling cleaners and the water hose and brushes I went to work, while whispering to her that she'd feel a lot better very soon and at the same time trying not to breath in fumes that even the cattle in the pasture behind us were hastily moving away from. Finally, some ? hours later I was done.

Friday: This day will be remembered as the height of the "Battle of the Mola"! I like to think I'm on the winning side as I've managed to round the modules to fit my shoulders and have some semblance of likeable shaping for the rest of the poncho. As you can see, it looks pretty beaten up and in somewhat of a position of surrender. Time will tell.

Well, that about does it for my news of my week away from blogging.

Oh. I must admit to having only "looked" at the Master Knit Program "once". Noting this...so that it will shame in into further action....maybe!
