Time Flies......

.......when I'm having fun! And boy, have I been OD'ing at that! So to catch up on the fiber highlights that I've been too lazy to post during the last 10 days. Starting with today...........AND since today IS my Birthday, and I'll admit to being 16.....oops....as usual I've got it backwards hehe!. I'll take a deep breath and say it "61" as in...."sixty one" That doesn't look so bad but it's really hard to say out loud. I didn't mind being 60 as I started to get my small pension from the UK and that (helps) supports my fiber habit. Now before you all start saying stuff like "61 isn't really old or things about "umm...not...umm...looking 61". I have to tell you how fortunate I feel. I can still do all the things I want to do......and rarely have pain (thanks to modern medicine). I eat whatever I please (thanks to always preferring fruit, veggies and chocolate). I still dance to 70's/80's rock and disco (at home). My mouth still goes at "mach 4" speed, although it doesn't always wait for my brain to be in gear. I've more dear friends than ever and still have my very best friend...my big brother Paul. Most of all though I still have the love (if not his patience ) of my "LoverlyYank" Bill, and because of him our loving children.

It's 6:45 am. - time out for my morning walk.

Now where was I?

OK fiber stuff. Yesterday/Wednesday I unearthed the bed in my fiber-play room so I'm now calling it a guest room even though the "decor" more resembles a yarn shop. Carolyn and Kathy are coming for the weekend. We'll be attending the Menedez festival in St. Augustine on Saturday. I still can't make up my mind what fiber I want to spin. I'm wanting to try to spin some linen "wet" as there is a bag that's begging to be made from "Folk Bags" and that's the requirement.

I've no idea if "spin wet" really means "just spin it wet" or something more technical and obscure. So I'll take the phrase literally and soak the fiber and go from there. Did I ever tell that I like to live dangerously....don't swatch either.
Anyway...back to yesterday, I also did more work to the new (my design) intarsia bag. I used designs from a jacket that I sold long ago. The theme of my work back then was Native American Art (no not the howling Cayote kind). It's rather
confusing to actually see the bag because of the background but you get the idea. The front and strap are done and I'm working on the back which will show the man, hope it's obvious that the design depicts the woman in the cold and windy high desert.

This Incan bag also from "Folk Bags" (made last week) was sold before I had the chance to use it. I'd made it from a huge stash of Needlepoint yarn. This gave me most of the colors needed and what I didn't have I substituted And just in case you weren't aware of it....this 100% wool felts wonderfully well. The 10 yd skeins are often just right for little touches of color and also lots of color like this one.

Tuesday I had a date with my doc'. Just needed a little fine tuning :) Since I still use the USN Hospital services, this took me again to Jacksonville. Although "Stitch in Time" (my 80 mile away LYS) is clear across town I chose to run up there just to touch and feel and yes......hopefully find that elusive Vittadini pattern. It's not in the Fall '94 book. I did learn from a very knowledgeable young assistant (wish I could remember her name....she spins too) that Vittadini often publishes books that showcase a certain yarn, she's convinced that the pattern I'm hunting is obtainable....just need some luck in finding it. During a long chat on spinning and dyeing the sweet 'no-name' girl persuaded me to look at the "Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook". At first I thought "WHY" since I don't 'do' socks! But low and behold the book is really about dyeing and spinning! And yes, it came home with me and now I'll learn how to dye and spin to make the self-patterning yarns and other such goodies.

Monday was as I expected it to be...a great day at Daytona Beach with friends and their kiddo. Here's a picture showing one reason we live in FL and it's just about an hour from home. This pic' was taken from the 17th floor of the Ocean Walk resort, one block from the Main St Pier. Daytona survived the "500" and soon it will take on "Bike Week".

Sunday: Hubby took me to Emeril's "T'choup Chop" resturant in Orlando. Actually I accompanied him as he was finally cashing in on a Christmas gift certificate from our DD Dawn. Dawn, was as always more than generous and we both ate to bursting on the delights of which, will never be seen in my kitchen. Thanks again Dawn.

I know I've forgotten (mislaid) some other great memories.......put it down to my age :(

But as far as I know, I'm now up to date and can start my 61st year (actually isn't this my 62nd year) with the gusto that life deserves. And I'll really try to post on a more regular basis.
Happy birthday to all Pisces.
